Frequently Asked Questions
What is telepsychiatry and how does it work?
Telepsychiatry is the delivery of psychiatric services using interactive teleconferencing technology. While the pandemic has greatly accelerated the adaptation of telemedicine, I have been practicing telepsychiatry for over 6 years and am very experienced if providing high-quality psychiatric care using this modality. Studies have shown telepsychiatry to be an effective and safe means of providing care, and also helps to promote engagement in care by reducing that amount of time spent traveling to and from appointments.
Can I talk to you first to see if we are a good fit?
Yes! I conduct a brief 15-20 minute phone consultation before we schedule our first appointment. This allows us to determine if we will be a good fit and if my services and skills are an appropriate match for your treatment needs. It also gives you the chance to ask me questions in order to help you understand my approach to treatment and to decide if you want to move forward with engaging in care.
Do you accept insurance?
I do not work with any insurance plans. However, you may be eligible for out-of-network benefits. Please check with your insurance company to see if they offer any reimbursements for out-of-network mental healthcare. You may want to specifically ask about telemedicine, as some plans are providing higher reimbursement for telemedicine due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. I will provide an itemized receipt at each visit that you can submit to your insurance plan for reimbursement.
How does payment work?
I collect payment in full at each session. I accept Venmo and all major credit and debit cards. Due to the pandemic, it is more difficult to accept checks or cash, but if you are concerned and would like to pay using these methods we can discuss it during your phone consultation.
What is your cancellation policy?
I request that you cancel your appointment by phone or email within 48 hours of your scheduled appointment time. If you late cancel or no-show your appointment, I will charge the full session fee.
Will you talk to my other mental health and healthcare providers?
I believe that taking a collaborative approach to care helps to yield the best overall patient outcomes. With your permission, I will work closely with your other mental health and healthcare providers to ensure we are providing you with the best possible care.
